Live at Town Hall

On September 13th to mark their silver anniversary, the band that brought klezmer into the 21st century is releasing Live at Town Hall, a guest-filled retrospective commemoration of a remarkable NYC concert that saluted their contributions and hinted at tantalizing future possibilities. The double CD captures the group’s 20th anniversary concert at the New York venue. Recorded in conjunction with the documentary On Holy Ground, the set features a cross-section of music from throughout the Klezmatics’ history, and a star-studded roster of special guests, among them previous members David Krakauer and Margot Leverett. Recent collaborators Susan McKeown and Joshua Nelson are among the featured vocalists. The repertoire draws from the group’s earliest days (“Man in the Hat,” “Dybbuk Suite”) and material as recent as the Guthrie adaptations. For everyone involved, the event was a celebration.
